Mahatma Gandhi, Puns & Language!

I just received an email from a friend, who is often the sender of good belly laugh material! This latest email was about an international pun competition! I’m not really sure there ever was an international pun competition, but it doesn’t really matter! This was my favorite. I hope no-one...

Brain Training – The Quest for Answers

Brain Training. The quest for answers continues – does it really work?

When researching brain training games online I realized I needed to get into the habit of looking after my brain like I would any other part of me.

I have always enjoyed a good old brain work out – crosswords, brain teasers, card games etc. But as I have gotten older I just haven’t done it consistently. I don’t buy the newspaper and do crosswords any more – I’m too busy running around ferrying the kids to sport! So when I do pick up a paper and look at the crossword or Sudoko, I find that I am not quite as sharp as I used to be….. Surely that cannot be right, can it?

When one of my kids got a NDS a few years ago, I thought I would do the right thing so I bought Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training for Nintendo DS and Big Brain Academy! I know, you feel sorry for my kids! But I am doing them a favor, right! I ended up battling the evil Dr K until I got a brain age back in my 20’s! Phew – on the right track. But that was short lived, I never got to use the NDS regularly and whenever I picked it up, Dr K could only insult me for not training regularly. Worse still he would mock me for going backwards! The final straw was when I did a brain age test and came up as 78 years – humiliation and the kids would see my brain age every time they used the game too!

I needed to find something I could do at my leisure and fit into my routine. Which brings me to my research into online brain training games and programs.

I work from home and my computer is the centre of operations! I am on the internet every day, so it makes sense that I would be able to form a habit around that. I turn the computer on every morning and check my emails – why not do some brain training to get my day started?

What I realized is that there are many other factors you need to consider to help maintain a healthy brain. So I hope over the course of my search and research you will find something to help you too.

PS – If you are wondering…… my brain age on NDS Brain Training is rather impressively back into the 20’s! I achieved that in the space of only a few daily sessions using my newly found favorite online brain training program – Lumosity! Read my review of the Lumosity brain training program.
